Rhythm Training
The following exercises combine listening and shadowing to begin training your ears to hear stressed words within phrases and sentences.
The first exercise is available to all visitors. CEA members unlock the complete training.
1. Listen to each sentence carefully.
2. Repeat the sentence out loud, matching the stress and rhythm you hear.
3. Identify the stressed words and write them down.
Tip: In English, we usually stress content words—nouns, main verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Function words—like articles, prepositions, pronouns, helping verbs, and conjunctions—are usually unstressed.
